A collection of essays and articles from The New Yorker, one of which -- a profile of an anonymous, but purportedly excellent, restaurateur -- created controversy when the subject of the article, Alan Lieb aka "Otto," speculated that a prominent New York restaurant used frozen fish for one of its plates. Heated denials and threats of libel suits followed, and McPhee issued a retraction in a later issue -- the first time such a thing had happened in the New Yorker's history.
