The Ballad of the Brown Girl
NY, Harper & Brothers, 1927. The second book by the leading poet of the Harlem Renaissance, who won more literary awards in the 1920s than any other black writer, including the Witter Bynner Poetry Prize in 1925 and a Guggenheim Fellowship. Billed as "an old ballad retold," the attractively designed book featured illustrations and decorations by Charles Cullen. Embossed owner stamp on title page; label removal shadow front pastedown; some sunning to boards and spine label; a very good copy, without the original slipcase. [#022889] SOLD
