King and O'Nan, both longtime and long-suffering Red Sox fans, decided at the beginning of the season to collaborate on a book about the Red Sox season. As VIP fans, the two had more access to the players than usual, and their account is lively and engaging; that the Sox broke an 86 year-long "curse" to win the World Series that year couldn't have been better scripted.
