The Right Stuff
NY, Farrar Straus Giroux, (1979). The uncorrected proof copy of his landmark account of the early years of the American space program and the culture of the astronauts whose characters helped define it. Approximately three dozen changes photo-reproduced in the text (in an unknown hand), which apparently made it into the first edition. Most of the changes take the form of small blackouts with single word substitutions or corrections, but a handful insert a phrase. Spine sunned and creasing there and at the lower front corner; a very good copy with a short tear at the lower front spine fold. A scarce proof, and a cultural landmark: the book was well-received; the title became a cultural catch-phrase; and the movie version was a Hollywood blockbuster. [#035337] SOLD
