Winner of the 1940 John Burroughs Medal, for the series: this being only Volume One of Bent's 21-volume, 44-year work, Life Histories of North American Birds, undertaken at the request of the Smithsonian Institution and published as a series of National Museum Bulletins, this being Bulletin 113. Inscribed by Bent: "To my appreciative friend Samuel D. Knox." Original wrappers bound into green cloth-covered boards. Bent's inscription is on the added endpaper, so inscribed after binding.
