2002. A thank you card from the Batemans, constructed of six photographs by Birgit Freybe Bateman taken at the Matthiessens' home in Sagaponack, NY in 2002, presumably after the Matthiessen's hosted the Batemans. Signed by both Birgit and Robert, with "a thousand thank yous." Birgit had done the photographs for Matthiessen's book End of the Earth; Robert had done the paintings for Matthiessen's book The Birds of Heaven. Ribbon-tied; fine. A beautiful record of the Matthiessens' now-gone home, by an excellent photographer who was also a friend and sympathetic spirit. [#032438] SOLD
