Song for the Blue Ocean
NY, Henry Holt, (1998). The author's first book, which won a Lannan Literary Award and was a New York Times Notable Book of the year, among several other awards. Inscribed by the author to Peter Matthiessen in the month prior to publication: "with 'deep' appreciation for your help and inspiration. Best Fishes, Carl Safina [with a drawing of a swordfish]." The text has a paragraph excerpting from Matthiessen's Men's Lives, and the jacket features a blurb by Matthiessen on the rear panel. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket. Safina's second book, Eye of the Albatross, won the John Burroughs Medal, and he has become one of the most highly praised writers on the natural world and the human despoliation of it.
