Dick's novel is set in southern California in 1994 -- the "near future" at the time the book came out -- and concerns drug use, paranoia, the loss of identity, and the shifting nature of reality. Dick himself had been a heavy user of drugs in the 1960s and early 1970s, and he claimed that everything in this novel were things he had seen or experienced firsthand. Signed by the author.
