Women Writers, T-V

547. TARTT, Donna. The Secret History. NY: Knopf, 1992. Advance reading copy of her first novel, published to considerable fanfare. This is a near fine copy in wrappers and is signed by the author. A very nice copy of a volume that tends to show wear readily.
548. THOMAS, Maria. Antonia Saw the Oryx First. (NY): Soho (1987). Review copy of the author's first book. Fine in fine dust jacket. With publisher's promotional material laid in.
549. THOMAS, Maria. Come to Africa and Save Your Marriage. (NY): Soho (1987). Review copy of her second and last book, published just after she had completed a year as a Wallace Stegner Fellow at Stanford University. Just after the publication of this collection of stories, the author returned to Africa, where she had lived for 12 years, and died there in a plane crash. Fine in dust jacket.
550. THON, Melanie Rae. Meteors in August. NY: Random House (1990). First novel by this writer who was selected as one of Granta's 20 best young American novelists. This copy is fine in a fine dust jacket and warmly inscribed by the author to another writer in 1991. A nice copy of this first novel and an excellent literary association.
551. THON, Melanie Rae. Girls in the Grass. NY: Random House (1991). Her second book, first collection of stories. Signed by the author and additionally warmly inscribed by the author to another writer, who provides a lengthy dust jacket blurb. Fine in fine dust jacket.
552. TYLER, Anne. The Tin Can Tree. NY: Knopf, 1965. Her second novel, a sensitively told story of a young boy coming to terms with his little sister's death. A powerful and moving story, which received good reviews but little in the way of commercial success. This is a very good copy in very good dust jacket, with modest soiling on the rear panel. Signed by the author. Scarce.
553. TYLER, Anne. The Clock Winder. NY: Knopf, 1972. Her fourth book, which some think is her scarcest. Inscribed by the author on a card mounted to the half-title. This copy has some spotting on the top edge and fading to the cloth, particularly on the spine; very good in a seemingly married, price-clipped jacket that is nicer than the book: there are two spots on the upper spine where the top layer of the unlaminated jacket is peeled away, affecting the "h" in the title; otherwise near fine.
554. TYLER, Anne. Morgan's Passing. NY: Knopf, 1980. A quirky novel that was the first of her books to be reprinted numerous times right after publication, although not quite the bestseller her later books have become. Remainder mark; otherwise a fine copy in a near fine jacket with a tear at the upper front flap fold. Signed by the author, and dated 1989.
555. -. Same title, the first British edition (London: Chatto & Windus, 1980). Inscribed by the author to W.P. (Bill) Kinsella, author of Shoeless Joe, in 1990. Small, light stain to bottom page edges and rear flap; else fine in fine dust jacket. A wonderful literary association, and very scarce thus: very few Tyler association copies have come on the market in recent years.
556. -. Another copy, not inscribed. Fine in fine, price-clipped dust jacket.
557. TYLER, Anne. Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant. London: Chatto & Windus, 1982. First British edition. Bookstore stamp front pastedown; else fine in near fine, price-clipped dust jacket.
558. TYLER, Anne. Breathing Lessons. NY: Knopf, 1988. Her Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. Fine in fine dust jacket.
559. -. Same title, the first Canadian edition (Markham: Viking, 1988). Fine in fine dust jacket. A "secondary" edition but presumably many times scarcer than the U.S. edition.
560. TYLER, Anne. Saint Maybe. (Toronto): Viking (1991). First Canadian edition. Fine in fine dust jacket.
561. TYLER, Anne. Tumble Tower. NY: Orchard (1993). A children's book with text by Tyler and illustrations by Mitra Modarressi, her daughter. Fine in fine dust jacket and signed by the author and illustrator. Tyler's first children's book, a nice story with attractive illustrations.
562. TYLER, Anne. Ladder of Years. NY: Knopf, 1995. Her latest novel. One of an unspecified number of copies signed by the author on a tipped-in sheet. Fine in fine dust jacket.
563. (TYLER, Anne). "The Feather Behind the Rock" in A Duke Miscellany. Durham: Duke U. Press, 1970. Also includes Reynolds Price, Fred Chappell, Josephine Humphreys, black activist Angela Davis, and others. An anthology of Duke "narrative and verse of the sixties," and an uncommon and relatively early Tyler appearance. Fine in fine dust jacket.
564. (TYLER, Anne). EVANS, Elizabeth. Anne Tyler. NY: Twayne (1993). A critical study of Anne Tyler, which was turned into a limited edition. This is one of 100 numbered copies signed by both the author and the subject of the book on a tipped-in leaf. Fine in fine dust jacket.
565. VAN GIESON, Judith. North of the Border. NY: Walker and Company (1988). The author's acclaimed first book, a mystery novel introducing attorney Neil Hamel as a new entry in the ranks of contemporary female sleuths. Fine in fine dust jacket. A pristine copy.
