963. (Senate Republican Policy Committee Staff). THE WAR IN VIETNAM. Ithaca, NY: The Glad Day Press (1967). Pamphlet reprinting the Republican "white paper" on the war, which defined that Party's positions on the various issues raised by U.S. involvement in Vietnam. Very good.

964. Shaplen, Robert. THE LOST REVOLUTION. NY: H&R (1965). The first of this New Yorker correspondent's highly praised reports and analyses of the war in Southeast Asia. Shaplen was considered one of the deans of the correspondents in Vietnam because of his extensive experience and background in the Far East, although he was also associated with the "old guard" of reporters, who believed in at least some of the assumptions justifying the American presence, if not actions, in Southeast Asia. Near fine in price-clipped dust jacket. Uncommon in the first edition.

968. Shawcross, William. SIDESHOW. Kissinger, Nixon and the Destruction of Cambodia. NY: S&S (1979). The first book to focus on Cambodia, and the growth of the Khmer Rouge in that country as an unintended byproduct of the U.S. policy in Vietnam. Fine in dust jacket.

Witnesses included Noam Chomsky, Arthur Schlesinger, Jr., and perhaps most interestingly former OSS Officer Frank White, who detailed the contacts the OSS had with Ho Chi Minh immediately after World War II. The pertinent declassified documents (with numerous deletions for security reasons) are included as appendices to this volume.
