NY, Atheneum, 1962. Her second book, a novel. Berriault, who taught at the Iowa Writers Workshop and San Francisco State University, was best known for her short stories. One story, "The Stone Boy," was made into a movie starring Robert Duvall, for which Berriault wrote the screenplay. In 2009 San Francisco State established a literary award in her name, to honor a writer whose work exemplifies that qualities that characterized Berriault's fiction.
