Heaney's first book, Eleven Poems, was published in the same series of chapbooks as this title. Deane's first novel, Reading in the Dark, not published until 1996, was shortlisted for the Booker Prize and won the Irish Times International Fiction Prize and the Irish Literature Prize in 1997.
